SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol which is used to connect to a web server and conduct different tasks using a command line. The protocol is employed by many expert users, due to the fact that the data transmitted over it is encrypted, so it can't be intercepted on the way by a 3rd party. SSH access may be used for lots of things based on the type of website hosting account. With a shared hosting account, for example, SSH is one of the ways to import/export a database or to upload a file in case the hosting server permits it. If you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH may be used for practically everything - you could install software or restart certain services including the web server or the database server which run on the machine. SSH is employed primarily with UNIX-like Systems, but there are clients which allow you to use the protocol if your computer system is running a different OS too. The connection is created on TCP port 22 by default and the remote web server always listens for incoming connections on that port although many service providers change it for security reasons.

SSH Telnet in Website Hosting

When you have a website hosting account with us and you'd like to handle your content remotely using SSH, you may obtain SSH access to the account via your Hepsia Control Panel. If your package does not come with this feature as standard, you can easily add it with several clicks from the Upgrades menu. Inside the SSH section of the CP, you shall see the host, the port number and the username that you should use when you connect to the account. You could also select what password you would want to use, since it does not have to be the same as the one for your account. We've prepared several Help articles where you can easily find each of the commands you will be able to use with a shared hosting plan, plus examples of how they're used. Furthermore, if SSH access is permitted for your account, you shall be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection through a standard client like FileZilla, for example.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Hosting

All our semi-dedicated server accounts provide you with the possibility to access and control them through SSH. If the plan that you have selected comes with this function by default, you just have to enable the SSH access feature through the corresponding section of the Hepsia CP. If the function is listed as an optional upgrade, you can quickly add it using the Add Services/Upgrades link within the Hepsia CP and it shall be available within a minute. We have various help articles and video lessons regarding the use of SSH commands to handle your account and a full list of the commands you can execute alongside various examples to offer you a better idea of what you can do. If SSH is active, you will also be able to set up an SFTP connection to the account and to upload information safely via any FTP application that supports the feature.

SSH Telnet in VPS

When you obtain a new virtual private server from our company, it shall come with full root access and you will be able to connect to the server and to control everything using an SSH console. The function is included by default with all plans, so you shall not need to allow or upgrade anything. Your hosting server will be set up shortly after you purchase it and the instant you get the Welcome e mail with the login info, you could connect through the server’s primary IP address and start working. Since the VPS is a software emulation of a dedicated server and is separated from the other accounts on the physical machine, there'll be no restrictions regarding the commands that you can use. You will have full root access, so that you can set up and run any app which can work on a Linux server, manage files, folders and databases or start/stop/reboot your entire machine or any software running on it.
